Many hands come together to make the Manning Regional Art Gallery a vibrant cultural hub. It’s the result of a community-wide process that involves hundreds of local residents—artists, makers, curators, educators, organisers, architects, builders, bakers and more—working under the infinitely loving guidance of Acting Director Rachel Piercy and Assistant Director Jane Hosking, and their dedicated staff of professional artists, to create diverse and outstanding exhibitions, events and public programs. The gallery is also proud to have an active members’ group, The Friends of the Gallery, and a network of devoted volunteers, supporting the Gallery in so many ways.
The Manning Regional Art gallery has been promoting art and community in the Manning Valley and Mid North Coast region for almost 30 years. The building began its life as the headmaster’s cottage for Taree High school and continues to foster teaching and learning, offering workshops and professional development opportunities to emerging and established artists, engaging young people as meaningful contributors and providing interactive programs for kids. It’s a place for people to come together and be inspired by what they see, to meet, engage with, be challenged, get motivated.
Renovated in 2007, the building now comprises a generous exhibition area, with adjoining studio workshop and outdoor art space, and is available for venue hire. The gallery also has its own shop, which showcases jewellery, textiles and homewares crafted by local, Australian and selected international artists. The gallery has a collection of 330 works and presents 20 new exhibitions a year, including group and solo exhibitions of emerging artists, as well as high profile touring shows.
We all look forward to seeing you at the Gallery.
